Lead magnet built to earn the reply

Lead magnet built to earn the reply

Introduction

Mezzolab is a motion design studio that makes videos for tech products, with fourteen years of work for companies such as Headspace, Qualtrics, Brevo, Remote and Algolia. Founder João Freitas had a portfolio that sold itself once a prospect saw it. The problem was getting it seen by product and marketing teams who had never heard of the studio. He asked us to build outbound to tech firms and to give those prospects a reason to look.

The Challenge

A studio whose work converts on sight, reaching buyers who would never see it.

Crowded inbox → product marketers at tech companies receive video and design pitches every week, most of them identical.
No reason to reply → “we make product videos” is a description, not an offer. A cold email needed something the prospect would want on its own.
No outbound before → the studio had no lists, infrastructure or sequences, and a founder with a studio to run.

What We Built

We built the outbound engine and, with the studio, the one thing that made it work: something worth asking for.

  1. A lead magnet created with the studio. Instead of pitching services, the campaigns offered a piece of value built for product teams, so the first reply was a request for it rather than a brush-off.

  2. Lists of tech firms with products to explain. Target companies were sourced where a product video is a natural purchase: software companies launching or repositioning products, with the people who own that story.

  3. Outbound run end to end. Sending infrastructure, sequences and reply handling, so interested replies turned into conversations for the founder while the studio kept producing.

What drove the interest

01

Lead magnet

A piece of value built with the studio for product teams, so the first reply was a request, not a brush-off.

02

Tech-firm lists

Software companies launching or repositioning products, and the people who own that story.

03

Product-led copy

Short emails about the prospect's product, not about the studio.

04

Reply handling

Interested replies turned into conversations for the founder while the studio kept producing.

The Outcome

Three months of outbound put the studio in front of the kind of company it had built its portfolio for.

Microsoft

discussion opened

  • 57 meeting-ready leads in 90 days → tech firms asking to talk about video for their products.

  • A discussion opened with Microsoft → the largest name the campaigns reached, from a cold email.

  • An offer the studio can keep using → the lead magnet outlives the campaign and keeps earning replies.

Why It Worked

  1. An offer, not a description. The lead magnet gave prospects a reason to reply that had nothing to do with buying a video yet.

  2. The right companies at the right moment. Tech firms with products to launch or explain are already thinking about video; the email just arrived first.

  3. The founder stayed on the craft. We ran the machine so the studio’s time went into the conversations and the work.
